π³
Ingredients
- 6 cups water
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup fresh lemon juice (about 6-8 lemons)
- 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves, packed
- 2 tbsp dried sweetgrass or 1/4 cup fresh sweetgrass (if available)
- 1 lemon, thinly sliced for garnish
- Ice for serving
- Mint sprigs for garnish
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine 2 cups water and sugar. Bring to a boil, stirring until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat.
- Add mint leaves and sweetgrass to the simple syrup. Let steep for 10 minutes.
- Strain the syrup through a fine-mesh strainer into a pitcher. Discard solids.
- Add remaining 4 cups water and fresh lemon juice. Stir to combine.
- Refrigerate until cold, at least 2 hours.
- Serve over ice. Garnish with lemon slices and mint sprigs.
π‘ Pro Tip: Sweetgrass (Hierochloe odorata) is the same grass used in traditional Gullah sweetgrass basket weaving. It has a sweet, vanilla-like aroma. If unavailable, the mint alone makes a delicious lemonade.
