π³
Ingredients
- 4 bone-in pork chops (1-inch thick)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1 tsp thyme
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Season pork chops with salt, pepper, and smoked paprika. Dredge in flour, shaking off excess. Reserve remaining flour.
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown pork chops 3-4 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
- Add sliced onions to the skillet. Cook until deeply caramelized, about 10 minutes. Add garlic and cook 1 minute.
- Sprinkle 2 tbsp of the reserved flour over onions. Stir and cook 2 minutes.
- Slowly whisk in chicken broth, thyme, cayenne, and bay leaves. Bring to a simmer.
- Return pork chops to the skillet, nestling into the gravy. Cover and reduce heat to low.
- Simmer 25-30 minutes until pork is tender and cooked through.
- Stir in vinegar. Remove bay leaves. Garnish with parsley. Serve with rice or mashed potatoes.
π‘ Pro Tip: The key to smothered pork chops is patience β let the onions caramelize deeply and the meat simmer low and slow. Serve with rice to soak up the gravy.
